About Michelle

Professionally

My social work journey began in 2007 at the College of New Caledonia in Northern BC, where I completed a Social Work Diploma in 2009. I later earned a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria in 2016 and a Master of Social Work from the University of Waterloo in 2024.

I have over ten years of professional experience across diverse areas of social work with two additional years of practicum internships. Throughout this time, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside and learning from people from many different life paths. These relationships and experiences shaped me and inspired me to further my education so I could support people more deeply in the counselling context.

Years of practice and self-reflection have enhanced my capacity to support people in a welcoming, non-judgmental, and compassionate manner, centering understanding from a place of attuned curiosity. My work is grounded in the belief that we are all doing the best we can and that our best is often influenced by thought and behaviour patterns we develop to protect ourselves against life’s challenges, disappointments and traumas. I believe that everyone has the internal resources required to live their best lives. My approach facilitates space for increased connection with your innate gifts and wisdom, as you explore, further understand, and moved through the limitations to your preferred life. In my personal and professional experience, I have witnessed the transformative healing power of deepening in relationship with oneself from a compassionate, respectful and curious place, and I am passionate about holding space for this work to unfold. I trust the wisdom of those I work with and prioritize their safety by aligning myself with the pace they set for our work together.

Central to my work is the understanding that broader socioeconomic systems rooted in oppression and inequality influence our lived experiences and our relationships with ourselves and others. I am dedicated to dismantling these systems within myself through ongoing education and self-reflection, honouring my commitment to creating a safe and inclusive space for all. I offer a sliding scale payment option for those experiencing financial limitations.

Personally

In my spare time I love to read and learn about counselling and social work related topics. I spend a great amount of time in nature, often in movement oriented activities such as hiking, running, and paddle boarding among others. Nature soothes and energizes my soul, reminding me of my connection to something much greater. I enjoy traveling and attempting to see the world through the eyes of cultures different from my own. I engage in daily practices of yoga, meditation and journaling to support self reflection and returning home to myself.
